ART requirements
For application of ART the following is needed:

Environment requirements
   * ART can be provided almost anywhere whether or not electricity or running water are available.

Personnel requirements
   * Can be successfully undertaken by both dentists and ancillaries, if properly trained
   * Proper training of operators is deemed essential since an operator effect has been seen in some studies

Training requirements
   * ART Training tailored to operator background
   * ART training manuals / courseware available
   * ART book (Frencken & Holmgren) available in 4 languages

Instruments & Consumable requirements
   * A set of seven ART instruments is needed (set costs about US$20)
   * Restorative material, gloves, cotton wool etc. costs about US$ 0.40 per ART restoration

Time requirements
   * Zimbabwe: Restoration time in permanet teeth in low caries population is 22 minutes, sealant time 9 minutes
   * China: Restoration time 11 minutes, sealant time 10 minutes

Funding requirements
    * Costs for consumables and ART instruments (see above)
   * Training costs
   * Data are currently being collected on implementation but in the poorest of countries and communities ART might not be an affordable option. Further research is required.
