The PhD projects are a joint initiative between the DGOH, the PhD candidate, the Dutch promotor and the local supervisor. The projects are set up as a sandwich project: Data collection/ field research in the home country; supervised data analysis and reporting in Nijmegen. After a subject is chosen, the candidate writes a proposal. If the quality is evident and if (partial) funding can be found, the DGOH will help to make all necessary arrangements to start and implement the PhD project.
We supervised 22 PhD projects between 2001 and 2010. Candidates from amongst others China, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Syria, Tanzania,Turkey, Vietnam, obtained their degrees.
Most recently, November 24 2010, Dr. Thoa Chau Nguyen defended her thesis with the title 'An epidemiological study on oral fucntion in Southern Vietnam'.
At the moment, more than 25 DGOH Phd students are working on their research.
