About DGOH

New concepts
Over the years, DGOH has developed new concepts in developing dentistry. Best known is the Basic Package Oral Care (BPOC), with three components: Oral Urgent Treatment (OUT), Affordable Fluoride Toothpaste (AFT) and Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART). This  concept has been promoted worldwide and accepted in many countries.

Research and capacity building
We support joint research and capacity building projects with institutions in low-income countries like China, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, South Africa, Syria, Tanzania, Turkey and Vietnam. Besides, we help to organise and evaluate programs aimed at (oral) health improvement (like school health programs) or the demonstration of the effectiveness of the components of BPOC.  At present we are involved in over 25 PhD projects leading to a PhD degree for researchers from low and middle income countries.

Training and education
Many countries have asked our support in organising training programs on specific topics like ART, effectiveness of fluoride toothpaste, fluoride analysis in water and toothpaste, oral function, basic periodontal care and community oral health. Since 2004, we organise advanced short courses in oral health and develop tailor made courses.
